Training Log 12.12.21

Will be working on developing my goals and habits for the next year. This year will only bring about more change in my life. I’ll be adjusting to training, working and growing with the added responsibility of becoming a parent. I’m confident I’ll be able to keep training because it’s always been a priority in my life, but I feel as though I have no clue the stress that will come with this opportunity.

Training: It felt good to finally lift again. I feel like my numbers are way down. I’ve been doing Front Squats, Bench and weighted pull ups. I started with 245 on front squat for 7 sets of 5, bench 225x5x7 and 40x5x7 on pull ups. Today I did some convo pulls for a very light 365×5. I didn’t bring my belt and didn’t want to push it too much. I messed up big time and didn’t go crazy with my runs. I need to get those in and I missed a running workout. I heard a quote that the things you don’t want to do are probably the thing you need to work on and this is how I feel with these runs. I don’t have the same motivation to work on them and I feel this is my weakness. I struggle the most with that on the fitness tests and I need to just put in the work.

BJJ: Yesterday, I was promoted to brown belt. It was a humbling experience. The past two years have been consistent with my BJJ career. Early on I was moving almost every month and trained when I could. When I moved back for residency I trained when I could. I love BJJ for the comradery more than anything else. I love that it doesn’t get easier and the longer you train you realize how much more there is to learn. This realization is in everything. In medicine I realize now more than ever, how much I don’t know. In lifting I’m realizing how much it takes to get to the top. What I do know is that we need to keep showing up.

Sleep: Last week I was averaging 6:27 time asleep and 7:30 time in bed. This is close to what I’m shooting for. Ideally I would be asleep for 7 hours, but I probably am closer to a 6:30 time asleep.

Stress: This week it was very high. This weekend I was able to decompress. I started doing my precharting on Saturday morning to have a weekend and I think it helped.

Learning: Continuing to work on the courses 4x a week and was able to finish Captain’s Class. I’ve always found benefit from structured curriculums because it gives me something to shoot for.
