Training Log 8.19.23

Training:
Week 4 of the Tactical Barbell Operator Template. 3 sets of 5 at 75% on the lifts on MWF. Squat 405, bench 245, Clean and press 175. I would do 5 pull ups following each of the main lifts. Was doing a couple sets of DB farmers walks in between bench sets. The squats felt great all week after a significant reduction from the ramp up to 90%. The bench felt easy. Clean and press is still challenging me. I would like to add an AMRAP set at the end of the workout of either pushups, BSS, and planks. This is the worst equipment I’ve trained on in a while and the barbell has no knurling making stability a little worse. The flooring is soft as well, which is making the lift different.

Running:
3 runs this week – 30 min run, a 5k, and an hour run. I got a new pair of shoes and tried them today during the hour run and it felt much better. I was running in Nike Frees that I’ve had a long time that are pretty worn.

BJJ:
3 sessions this week. I’m thankful to be training again. The room is humid and hot, and it’s been an adjustment to get back to training. Irritated my R shoulder a little bit at open mat yesterday.

Sleep:
Quantity has been increased, but I still feel like the quality is down. I don’t know if it’s total training volume or just being slower in the clinic I’m in, but I’m more fatigued. Nutrition has been trash and this is also likely contributing.

Stress:
Overall low.

Learning:
Finished A4M’s GI course, will complete phase I of ILE tomorrow once I submit my paper, finished Risk by Stanley McCrystal, re-read How to Win Friends and Influence People. Worked through an AAFP journal. It’s interesting because I worked through a lot this week and it still feels like I’m not learning. I don’t have a good reason why, except for the fact that because my clinical volume is down I think the lack of application is making me feel rusty.
