Training Log 5.21.23

It’s been an interesting shift with training. Life is crazy right now and I’m thankful that I have a consistent training program. The thing that’s helped me more than anything is making a decision on the next program prior to completing the previous one. I still think I would ultimately like to get to the format of really pursuing strength in the fall and winter and a cardio focus in the spring and summer.

Training:
Tactical Barbell Base building Week 1:
This week was definitely different. I need to look at my percentages and use the Jim Wendler rule of the 90% training max. I did this for my Friday lift. I also don’t know how much of a problem it’s going to be if I shift my lifting days to Tuesday and Thursday because this works out better for my schedule. I did light BJJ Monday, Lift on Tuesday, Ruck with 40 on Wednesday, LSS run Thursday, lift on Friday, Ruck for recovery 25lb on Saturday, and Ran and did open mat BJJ on Sunday. The Tuesday lift was SSB Squat (315x5x5), Incline Bench (225x5x5), and WPU (25x5x5). The Friday lift was Front Squat (275x5x5), Bench (245x5x5) and Deadlifts Sumo (405x5x5). It all felt fine, but I felt weaker and slower. I’m amazed how off this felt coming off of hitting 405×25 on squat and 500×25 on rack pull the week prior.

BJJ:
2 sessions. I’ve struggled this past month and have only been getting 2 days and have felt really disappointed with this. Today’s open mat felt great. Lots of guys giving very different looks and I’m thankful so many guys have been training so long.

Sleep:
I’m disappointed with my Oura ring. I got the new version maybe 1-2 years ago and the battery life has declined rapidly. I’ve work one now for maybe 4-5 years and the first generation did not decline as rapidly. I’m uncertain if it’s due to the oxygen monitoring or what. My sleep has been steady. I did get one bad night this weekend because I wanted to finish Better Call Saul’s season 6.

Stress:
Way up.

Learning:
This was probably the worst week I’ve had all year. I’ve been working through PN’s sleep stress and recovery program and I need to shift my focus back to A4M and ILE. I think I just defaulted to PN because it’s fun and easy to go through their modules. I need to write a paper for ILE and didn’t get this done. I need to finish a fair amount of lectures over the next two weeks to stay on track with my plan. I wanted to finish Phase I of ILE over the next 6 weeks and get into phase two for my upcoming trip. I wanted to get through the first 4 A4M modules during this time as well with the peptide course. I’ve spent some time thinking about this and think I’ll be able to knock this out. I started the Great Courses Law School for everyone and finished John Maxwell’s 5 Level’s of Leadership. I’ve really enjoyed Maxwells work and think his writing on Leadership is excellent. I agree with the theory 1. Positional Leadership, 2. Develop Relationships 3. Get results 4. Develop new leaders 5. Leave a legacy.
