Training Log 5.7.23

It’s been a busy couple weeks. Today I felt completely drained. I haven’t had a day where I didn’t work in about three months. The next three months will be a little bit of a grind. Overall, things are going well it’s just trying to make a last push prior to major changes.

Training: Week 9 of Recovery and Hypertrophy program as well as ACFT week. This week was the last week of 25 reps. I had the ACFT on Saturday and got a 592. I continue to lag on the run and had a coaching call on how to train for this going forward. My scores were as follows DL 340×3 (100). This event is by far the easiest for me given my background in powerlifting. It was interesting how even just doing the rack pulls for the past two months how easy this felt. The SPT I threw 14.6m (100). Also interesting and I give credit to the rack pulls. This mimics the hinge movement required for the SPT. I didn’t throw a med ball once or do O-lifts as I did in the past training for this and it didn’t seem to matter. Push ups my max for age was 62 so that’s what I hit (100). This did seem significantly more challenging than in the past and I attribute this to not benching during the H&R program. Next was the spring drag and carry which I hit my slowest time to date of 1:23 (100). The course was on an incline and I think this is what caused the reduction in time by about 5 sec as it felt the easiest to date. The plank I had to hit 3:40 and that’s all I did (100). The final event the 2 mile run continues to keep me from the 600. The honest truth is I just did not do what was necessary to get the time I needed. I spoke to my coach who gave me a three day template similar to what I’ve been doing. The biggest take away was to put the sprint day on the hardest lift day and to put the long run on the easiest lift day. I got a 15:37 which was embarrassing (92) . It’s crazy to me how much my time drops off when trying to do this after the other events. As I had the ACFT, I’m pushing my big 25 day to Tuesday where I’ll be going for 405×25 on squat and 500×25 on rack pull. The bigger challenge that day will be the squat.

BJJ: 3 sessions this week. The head instructor was out so I ran class on Friday. Been working bottom side control a lot and it’s been challenging starting in this weaker position.

Running: Did a short run Tuesday and Thursday, took the test on Saturday.

Sleep: Average time asleep this past week was suboptimal of 5:56. The night before the test I had very little sleep as I got into my drills location late. Not having an extra hour to sleep on the weekend days is starting to add up.

Learning: Been consistent on this which is the redeeming factor. Got through 6 A4M lectures this past week and 2 ILE lectures. Got through most of the Fifth Discipline and The Honest Truth about Dishonesty. Started the PN Sleep and Recovery course. I’m extending myself a little too much from an academic standpoint, but at the same time I really enjoy learning.
