Training Log 4.30.23

I’ve done a really poor job lately of writing. I will say this is due to a number of competing factors for time, but it’s a failure on my part and I need to start understanding the value of reflection. The next year is going to be busy and wild. I assume there will be much greater risks than I’m typically used to and in the end I hope that some of them pay off. I’m looking at industries that I’m not as familiar with and I’m hopeful that it leads to a positive future. We hit a financial milestone which was nice and I had a fair amount of challenging conversations.

Training:
Hypertrophy and Recovery program week 8. This program feels a little weird to me as I feel like the upcoming week is the peak week where I’m going to try to hit my goal weights for a set of 25. 405 on squat and 500 on rack pull for 25. I’ve had that goal with squats for a long time. I originally wanted to hit 405 for 20 on squat when I got married 8 years ago.

Work weight was KB OHP 53x5x4, 62x5x4, 70x5x4. Hang with contraction bw x 30sec x4. Rack pull 495x5x4, 470x5x4, 495x5x4. Squat 405x5x4, 380x5x4, 405x5x4. Belt squat death march 3 plates per side x 1 min x4. Ran after every workout and felt good.

BJJ:
Three training sessions this week. I have not been training on competition days or open mats much because I’ve been working the weekends and my cardio feels like it dropped off a cliff. It’s amazing to me how specific cardio is for a certain type of training.

Sleep:
Down this past week with a time asleep of 5:55. I need to bump this up significantly.

Learning:
This I’m proud of. Been getting through A4M neuros course, ILE lessons, started PNs Sleep, Stress and Recovery program. Recertified for ACLS. Finished 2 more books – Driven and the Art of Intelligence. Up to date on podcasts. It’s been a great year of learning. Had a ton of meetings that I actually wanted to have and feel like I’m getting great insight.
