The best habit I’ve had for this year is working on an online course during my off days. I think this is a reasonable way to continue learning as a post-graduate. I have always found a formal curriculum or template easier to follow than just searching for piecemeal tips or information. There is a financial cost, but I think outsourcing the development of a curriculum has been beneficial and worth it. The outsourcing started with purchasing lifetime memberships to MASS and Examine. I use them to do the prelim research on nutrition and strength. I use JAMA and AAFP for my continuing education on medicine.
Training:
Been up and down physically over the past week. I have been trying to think about my global training. I elected for running 3x a week. I’m doing intervals on Thursdays with deadlifts and longer runs and the lift on Saturday. I’m hopeful that this is easier to manage physically compared to 4 days a week of running with the lifts. I like alternating the squats and front squats. I worked up on deadlifts with sets of three reps on sumo followed by 3 reps on conventional to sets of 435. Squats I’m working up to sets of 5 at 405 and sets of 295 on front squats. OHP with sets of 5 at 185 after sets of power cleans.
BJJ:
Missed a day this week with the snow. Training has felt pretty good
Sleep:
Total time asleep has been 6:33 and time in bed is 7:28. I try to aim for 7:30 in bed and this is a lot closer to my goal. I know that I’m going to be struggling with sleep over the next couple weeks with the birth of our first kid.
Stress:
Up and down. I’m exploring new opportunities with work. Mentally I’m trying to figure out how to make everything work and I’m finding that this will likely work out over the next couple months. My resting HR was up this past week to 42 and my HRV was down a little to 114.
Learning:
Finished the master fitness trainer course. Still working through HLC2. If I get access to the ACLM core competencies I’ll probably work through that again. The plan is to work on taking the obesity boards and the ACLM boards this fall. I think I’ll be able to make that work. I’m working through a psych pharm book and a book on medical Nilhism. I can’t say I’m getting into either.
