Training Log 10.20.21

The time following the event weekend was overall a down week. I just repeated the first week of easy strength, then moved into the second phase of week 2.

Training:

I think following the recent events the 6 sets of 1 did not go significantly higher than the first cycle. I worked up to 500 on the sumo and 255 on incline bench. Not great, but my body was feeling beat up so I didn’t push anything. Just got in and got the work done. I’ve continued finishing these workouts with an easy pace 2 mile run.

BJJ:

The class I’ve been teaching has grown to about 30 people which is awesome. Still training three days per week. I think it’s a lot easier on my body not training on the PT field and using wrestling mats. I’ll likely have a couple weeks off from training. I’m projecting that I’m going to increase my training days to 5-6 days per week after the break and am going to have to be mindful about managing the lifting and running with this. I’m hopeful this will workout with improved sleep quality and my bed, but I think there’s going to be a period of risk around the transition into a couple new time zones.

Sleep:

The trend of poor sleep continued. I think training too late, nerves, and whatever the hell else was going on impacted the quality. We had a couple night events at work and my wife had a doctor’s appointment I called in. As a result my sleep volume dropped and I was a grouch.

Stress:

Up. HRV dropped significantly. I think my attitude was off because of the poor sleep which bled into everything else. Times of transition are always more challenging.

Learning:

Just trying to be consistent with a chapter a day, reading some journals, and develop a routine. Started reading tactical barbell which I’ve greatly identified with.
