Training Log 10.13.21

My little weekend Triathlon is over. The end of this time away from home is approaching and I’m getting more excited about going home. Have tried being a little mindful of saying thank you and reaching out to family or friends on a daily basis. I do think this is a good habit and one I’d like to continue when I get home.

Training: Have continued with the Easy strength template using KB Swing/Squat as the warm up, incline bench, lat pull down, sumo dead’s, farmer’s variation, and pull ups/hanging leg raises. This weekend I had a deadlift contest on Saturday night, and the Army 10 mile run on Sunday morning. I pulled 560 sumo and ran 10 miles in 1:34. Both felt fine. I started to notice on Tuesday that I was over trained. This has all been ok as the program is built to work up to easy top sets. It’s just been a lot lighter the past couple days to recover.

BJJ: Still training and teaching 3 days a week. The mats have really helped and our numbers have already outgrown the space we have. It’s a cool thing to see how quickly it’s picked up and how quickly people are improving. Hard to gauge where I’m at and will be curious to see how things go when I get home to train again.

Sleep: Still poor this past week. I need to work on being a little more consistent getting to bed on time. I think overtraining has also hurt my sleep. Noticed my resting HR is up a couple beats, likely from overtraining.

Stress: Mental stress seems like it’s down from last week, and my HRV is starting to go back up again. I think I’m still a week or two out from where I want to be. I’m curious to see how my stress goes with another transition.

Learning: Finished the Sherman book, the effective executive and Grit. I think Grant and Sherman’s book taught that early life failure can lead to success. Both men define grit with their perseverance. The effective executive continues to teach me to seek time to think and avoid non-productive meetings.
