Training: Today marks the completion of Average to Savage 1.0. I finished week 16 and elected to end with a mock meet. I worked up to 515 on the squat, 350 on bench, and 540 on sumo for a total of 1405 at a bodyweight of 204lb. I’m uncertain what I’m going to do for my training when I get back. I go on vacation tomorrow then have 16 weeks until my government vacation. I’m certain that when I’m away I’m going to go back to the bodybuilding and triathlon training from the hybrid athlete.
Program Summary: I did the first 16 weeks of Average to Savage 2.0 followed by Average to Savage 1.0. This was following 3 months of bodyweight training and then the post deployment program to get back into lifting. I felt like I was breaking down on the 2.0 training model by the end of the 16 weeks and had no desire to enter into the final intensification phase. Returning to 1.0 was a nice change, but I noticed that I really struggled when I got back into the intensification phase. I don’t know what goes on with me mentally when I get to this phase. It seems like I just checkout and don’t care. Maybe 12 weeks is the most I can handle with a particular program. I feel like I responded well to 1.0, but I think the next time I do it I’m going back to conventional deadlifts or hex bar. I also think I need to make sleep more of a priority. I do feel stronger than I’ve felt at this body weight. The sumo did not come up as much as I expected it to. I still have the goal of hitting 500×10 on the sumo dead. During this program I hit 500×7.
BJJ: Have been consistent with M, Tu, W, Friday. I’ll be taking next week off which I’m ok with. I’m just planning on using next week as a reset.
Sleep/Stress: This past week has been the worst/least I’ve slept all year. This has been a trend the past couple weeks. This is the fault of my own as I didn’t make it enough of a priority. I think this is partially of what contributed to my mindset. HRV has been down in the low 100s. Body weight has been decreasing as well.
Learning: Finished Jordan Peterson’s new book, Personal MBA, started Gut and What if and I don’t know if I’ll finish either. Really thinking about just reading for fun this week and spending some time planning the next four months.
