Training Log 2.16/2.23

It’s almost comically how quickly I can fall off and not do any of my writing over the past couple weeks. Sadly, I wanted to be more consistent during the lenten season and that has not happened to date. Better late than never.

Training: Week 12-13 Average to Savage 1.0. The past two weeks have been ok at best. It was a testing week followed by a week where I traveled to a conference and had to consolidate the major lifts on two days. Week 13 I ended up cutting a lot of the accessory work, which may mean I’m not completing the program as written. I always seem to struggle when I get into the peaking phases of programs. I’m not as in to the program as I was during the first 8 weeks and as the intensity goes up and the volume goes down – I find it harder to stay motivated. On the testing week I hit 480×4 on squat, 330×3 on bench, 550×2 on deads, and 185×3 on OHP. I honestly was considering transitioning to another program after the 12 week mark. I felt content with the numbers I’ve hit to date and I was undecided on the utility of continuing the program. Week 13 I hit 380 on squats for 15, 260×15 on bench, 500×7 on sumo dead, and 145×15 on OHP. I think the rep scheme ends up being I just try to hit the same amount of reps that I do on the bench day in the other lifts. I was hoping for more reps on the deads. I was hoping to get around 10 and maybe could have grinding them thus killing the next week or two of training. The next couple weeks I might work up to a mock meet in 2-3 weeks just to see where I am. I haven’t competed in powerlifting in years now and would be interested just to see where I am at the end of this program. Where I think my mindset is off, if I’m already thinking about what’s going to come after I complete this program. I’m thinking I might hit 12 weeks of the post deployment program again, then when I’m overseas do the 16 week hypertrophy and triathlon training from the Hybrid athlete.

BJJ: I was surprised to see that my training overall was more in the month of Feb than the month of Jan. The first week of Jan was trash due to our gym having covid crap going on and I had a week of trash in Feb due to travel and snow. I was consistently getting in 4 sessions a week and I’d like to get 4-5 every week throughout March. I’m considering working up to competing in June at the Arnold’s.

Sleep/Stress: I was more focused on increasing the quantity of sleep the past couple weeks. During week 12 of the program I was pretty consistent with my averages, but the past week I lost some of the averages due to being gone. I was averaging 7:19/7:22 in bed with 6:28/6:26 time asleep. My HRV was 111/106. So that second week things were just overall down. I think this was from changing time zones, being at altitude and just not being on the normal schedule.

Learning: Finished the Grant book, re-read White Coat Investor, re-read the art of war, re-read Lead the Field. I still need to be more intentional about reading a chapter and then pausing and reflecting on the take aways from that chapter. I feel that a lot of my reading has become a little lazy.
