Workout: Average to Savage 2.0 Week 6. Week 6 completes the first block of this training program. Overall, I think things are going well. This week I had some left hip pain that worsened with the SSB box squats. I’m uncertain if I’m aggravating my FAI on the left with the change in movement pattern. I worked up to 425×7 on squats, 290×6 on bench, and 475×7 on deads. These numbers are all below PRs for those lifts at a comparable body weight. I have not been pushing the max sets beyond 2-3 reps beyond the goal. I think that’s kept the weight increasing at a tolerable level and it’s keeping me more fresh for my other training. I started running 0.5-1 mile before and after the workout to ensure I’m getting some running in. This only adds 5-15 minutes on to my workouts and ensures I’m getting this training in. I’ve been playing with the running footwear and I’m not certain where I want to go with that. I went from the Altra which I had a couple calf injuries to a New Balance and got right achilles tendinitis. Now I’m playing between the Altra, Xeros and Hokas. When I walk I’m always in a minimalist shoe. Training I want to work slowly into the minimalist shoe, but my legs aren’t ready for longer distances.
BJJ: Went back to open mat on Sunday and I’m really pushing to get in the gym 5-6 times a week. This month has been less consistent with the teaching. For the fundamental series we’re doing guillotine, scissor sweeps, hip toss take downs, and the knee slice pass.
Sleep: Better sleep through the night with the temperature change. Time in bed was 7:11 and time asleep was 6:21 with an average sleep score of 73.
Stress: HR was back down to 39 on average and HRV improved to 120 over the past week. Both of which I’m attributing to improved sleep. My stress globally has felt higher with a lack of feeling productive.
Diet: Markedly worsened over the past week. I really need to work on increasing my veggie intake.
Learning: Finished Earl Nightingale’s Lead the Field. Working through Self-compassion and The Almanac of Naval. Working through IFM which I feel has continued to take me away from the textbook reading. Overall, that’s fine as I have my test at the end of the month.
