Training 9.1.20

Week 1 – Average to Savage 2.0

Workout: Started training average to savage. This was the program I was doing prior to my mobilization. There is a lot more movement variety in this program. There are three new exercises each day. I’m formatting it similar to my last training program with a corrective, the movement, and a supplemental exercise with each set. I noticed I’m a lot more sore. This was pretty much expected. This program has a lot of autoregulation and I did not try to kill myself this first week. I might not push the reps on the rep set for another couple weeks. There is also a Bryan Mann APRE component where the weights are modified by how many reps are achieved. I was feeling strong with this program prior. It’s three days a week and I’ve enjoyed that frequency with my training. The lifts I selected were Squat, Sumo Deads, Incline DB Press, Bench, OHP, Front squat, Trap Dead, Close grip bench, SSB squat and the push press. I was surprised how weak my barbell overhead press was coming off improvement on the kneeling overhead press. I think this comes from lacking stability with standing.

Other Training: My BJJ volume was up in the month of August. I had 24 training sessions. Overall, I’m trying to keep that intensity as low as possible. My running has been maybe 2x a week of low intervals. Walking a couple times a day.

Stress: Up and down. I just feel off. Sleep has been up and down.

Diet: has been up and down as well. I find the number of nights I have alcohol is up. On the drive podcast Petter Attia said he’s finding a similar trend. I’m only having 1-2, but it’s more consistent than normal.

Learning: Finished Designing Your Life – Bill Burnett and Cancer and the New Biology of Water – Cowan. Still doing about 1-2 hours of IFM studying on my off days. My reading routine has been trash and I need to be more consistent with my foundational reading.
