Week 11 Post-Deployment Training Log Week 11 of 12
The Workout: I can’t believe I’m entering the last week of this program. I struggled to understand the wave thought process until I’m actually at the end of the program. Basically you do 2 microcycles and then hit your goal weight for 25. This is followed by a deload and then work up to a double and then max single. I’m kind of kicking myself for not seeing it until doing it. This week I ended the week and worked up to 455x2x3 on squat and 83lb (53 +30) x2x3 KB kneeling press. That’s probably a best strict press with a kettlebell to date. Out of neglect the OHP has always lagged behind my other lifts. The squat I didn’t want to push given the highest weight I hit was 315 during this program. The 455 felt more solid than I expected and I would mark that up to the single arm KB work. I’m curious to see how next week goes when I work singles. I suspect I’ll end up hitting right around 500 which will be around 90% of where I was pre-covid. So maybe, this was a reasonable program as a rebuild after time off after all…I feel like hangs for time is a different beast than doing endurance sets. I did weighted hangs for a minute the first two workouts and then did bw on the heavy day for time and it felt like a different exercise. Kept the waiter carry and the rack carry at 75lb (40+35).
Other Training: Body has felt find with the additional BJJ. I’m still flirting with the idea of increasing the days and focusing on efficiency. I was talking with one of the professors and he stated that he never gets his heart rate up with training and just focuses on defense. He thinks this will extend his time on the mats. He’s around 48yo now which is right around the time people back off. In trying to think long term about that sport – I need to protect my neck, tap early, and continue lifting. The running is where I keep having questions. As I’ve increased my running in the morning with the dog, I’m feeling more beat up. While I think I need to have a base level of training, maybe that looks like an interval day and a long day a week and that’s it.
Stress: Finishing up a case study this week and I feel like I forgot how to be a student. Sleep has been a little better with the hot temperatures breaking. Still drinking more caffeine than I want in the morning, but I’m hoping to decrease this as the sleep volume goes up.
