Week 10 Post-Deployment Training Log Week 10 of 12
The Workout: This week was the best the whole program felt. I think after doing the higher rep challenges, this week felt like a deload. Overall, this program has felt like a deload. I think what makes that mentally challenging is the fact that I used this as a rebuild program after a several month hiatus from lifting while mobilized. I’d be curious to try the program again – probably the first 8-9 weeks after a couple months of hard training to see how it feels at that time. The weights on this week were very light compared to the last block and it was noticeable. For the hangs, I added a 35lb kb with a dip belt. I was shocked how much more taxing this was on my grip. I kept the hang times at a minute and did 3 pull ups every 30 seconds. The carries I added 5-10lb for this block as well. I feel much stronger with the waiter carry.
Other Training: BJJ has been going well. No complaints and it’s nice getting consistent training. Been doing at least 2 days of zone 2 cardio and read which has been much needed. The dog walks are going well, but are still less relaxing as there continues to be a lot of correction. Probably going to transition these to light jogs as the puppy passed the two mile light jog this morning. Will probably work up to a light 2-3 mile run in the morning to wake her and myself up.
Stress: Hit a breaking point last week with a lack of quality sleep. Wife gave me a couple nights off from waking up with the dog and I felt refreshed. I don’t know how moms deal with breastfeeding babies. The high stress worked well with a back off week in training. Caffeine intake is still a lot higher than I would like. I’m going to probably just going to get a 2 year old dog from the pound in the future. We’ll see if I forget the lack of sleep with time, and it will be worth it in retrospect.
