Week 8 Notes – Post-deployment Training Log Week 8 of 12
The Workout: Finished the second block and have 4 weeks to go. The carries are noticeably stronger than when I started the program. I feel like it’s easier to stay upright and locked in. The biggest question that I have through the second block is should I have picked heavier goal weights. I think this depends on the goal of the program. I think the chosen weights are probably reasonable if I’m using this as a reset. I’m going to finish this program, but I think if I were to repeat this in the future I would be done after these 8 weeks. I find doing the same workout with minimal variation or ways to gauge progress beyond feel as mentally challenging. I feel disconnected from the workout, but there may be advantages to this. I might be more refreshed for the other things in my life.
Other Training: Grapplings been going well. I’ve been very consistent, which is nice. I stopped my fish oil and turmeric and started to notice my patellar tendon and right Achilles again. Started taking them again and there was no pain 2 days later. I personally think that I’m just going to keep those supps in the diet as long as I’m training as much as I am. Been walking every morning still and it’s not been as peaceful. I’m more mindful of correcting the dog and ensuring that she doesn’t pull. After meeting with the dog trainers they mentioned that you should be talking to the dog and paying more attention to them during the walk. I’m hopeful this pays off in the future because right now putting this much time into the dog has been draining.
Stress: As mentioned last week the lack of sleep is just continuing. I’m down about 30 minutes a night this month compared to last month. I’ve been dialing up the caffeine to compensate. Still been hitting goal habits, just been falling behind on some side projects.
