Week 7 Notes – Program Post – Deployment Training Log Week 7 of 12

The Workout: The mindset from the half way point has continued into the back half of the program. Get in, do the work, and leave. It’s challenging when I’m not sure of the “goal” of the program. I view it as a reset as of now, but without a real increase in intensity or reps it’s been fine. The quality of the movements have felt better. The increased weights on the waiter carry and rack carry was the right move – 75lb for both. Keeping the single arm farmers around 120lb. Saturday – day between the light and heavy days – was my birthday so I did a combination of Jim Wendler’s Widowmaker challenge and the “yearly test” from T-nation. I ended up weighing 207lb on my 32nd birthday. I did 225×25 on bench, bw x 26 on pullups, 225×60 on squat, 1:10 on the 10/10 challenge, and finished with the quarter mile farmers with 120lb DB in each hand in 15:17. I was smoked from this and the thing that was most sore the next day was my chest. It did not really impact the workouts the next day or on the heavy day which I thought was surprising.

Other Training: Every day since we got the dog I’m up at 4:15a and walk her. We recently finished with a quarter mile jog and I’ll probably keep it at that for a while. BJJ has been consistent and training is feeling good. I’m trying to be more mindful about continuing to rep the recent moves we’ve learned during rolling. Probably will add a light fundamentals day in 2 weeks and I’m going to keep the total days around 5. My concern is overdoing it beyond those days.

Stress: the lack of sleep is starting to get to me. I’m the sole person that wakes up with the dog at night. My sleep has probably dropped by 30-45 min a night as a result and I’m feeling it. Had a conference this past week that went pretty late and that didn’t help anything either. The odd thing is that I think because I’m so focused on the well being of the dog all my recovery metrics are improved even with the lack of sleep. HR is down to 37, HRV has been in the 130-140 range, and poops are improved. My hands are continuing to get mauled.
