Week 2 Notes:

The workout: I found the 2 sets of 15 more fulfilling than the 1 set of 25. The workout just seems to flow with the loaded carries and the mobility work. I’m really starting to appreciate increasing workout density by hitting multiple movements per set. The correctives are a nice touch and fill in the rest time nicely. I continue to remain curious how this will go over the next 10 weeks. I continue to leave feeling refreshed. I’m getting through the workout in approximately 45 minutes. For the pull up hangs I’ve been increasing the time of the hold from 1 min on the light day, 1:30 on the medium and 1:45-2:00 on the heavy day. I found my forearms to be burning more and I can’t tell if it’s from extra grip work with BJJ or I just mentally focus on them getting tired. Squat weight continues to feel low and rack pull weight feels fine. There continues to be no soreness as a result of this program and I’m content with that.

Other training: BJJ feels great. It was wonderful getting to see old training partners with us all being away. No soreness after this and cardio was back in about a week. For some reason my movement feels better. I don’t know if I attribute this to Started doing Zone 2 and reading and that’s going well. Prior to coming home I inflamed my right Achilles insertion and this has continued to bother me with any running movements. I tried trowing in a run walk and I my body reminded me quickly that tendons take a while to heel (pun).

Stress: HR dropped within 1-2 days of implementing the zone 2 cardio and I’m back down to my baseline HR of 39-40. HRV went back up to 120. Sleep overall has been up and down. I’ve been more consistent with bedtime and getting up which has helped. Returned to work today which was ok. Over the weekend went to a family funeral. The only thing that kept going through my head was how this exact family member said 1 year ago “the next time I’ll see you is at my funeral.” Maybe she knew something I didn’t.

Learning: Continuing with habit of reading a text chapter a day in the fields I work. Currently listening to Anti-Fragile – it’s been interesting. It makes me more optimistic in light of the current turbulence. Church has been challenging – in watching the pastor navigate the line of saying too much or too little in light of the current societal climate. Forgiveness and grace still remain some of the most beautiful concepts imagined. Podcast habit – Monday – Peter Attia the Drive, Tuesday – White Coat Investor, Wednesday – Crossroads Church, Thursday – Knowledge Project, Friday – Dan John, Saturday – Paul Chek, Sunday – Stronger by Science or Found My Fitness.
