Template Thoughts: I still haven’t found a practical way of posting my training log onto this site. I’m probably just going to end up posting a read only link to the sheets account. My goal is to continue working on the base excel/sheets template so I can give it out if people want to track – training, diet, sleep, day quality and notes. I think this is like a mini journal. The biggest benefit would be the ability to track or aggregate the data to compare training volume, sleep and day rating on a monthly basis. Furthermore, I think I would be able rename the BJJ tally as monthly habit. This way you can determine if you’re meeting your daily habit goal. This kind of steals the 1 line a day and habit tracking stuff from Jame’s Clears Habit journal. It also allows me to just continue doing my thing.
Training Thoughts: I finally took the dive and elected to do Dan John’s Post Deployment Training Program/Do This Hypertrophy program. The transition from doing a week of easy strength to this program will probably work well. Overall, I feel great. I got back on the mats this past week and started working on the truck position. My grappling conditioning was trash, but it’s starting to come back slowly. The lifting is odd as I leave feeling good and not trashed. I feel like I have tons left in the tank and I’m uncertain if that’s a good or a bad thing. I have not been doing my level 2 cardio as consistently as I would like. I often concomitantly do my level 2 cardio and get some additional reading or podcast time. In thinking more long term – I’m considering breaking my strength training into 4 annual 12 week blocks. 12 weeks with O lifting focus, 12 weeks hypertrophy focus, 12 weeks power lifting focus, and 12 weeks with this program. This would allot for 4 weeks off/deloading on a calendar year. This could follow the completion of each quarter. I think it would be fun to have “seasons” again similar to when I played sports. Based on wanting to chase a lot of rabbits this might be the best approach to doing so.
Stress: Stress has been very high the past two weeks. We just bought a condo and I’ve been dealing with a lot of scheduling stuff at both of my offices. This is not generally my role. It’s been interesting as it’s forced me to continue working on communication and managing egos, but highly time consuming at the same time. I feel like my mind is continually returning to this thinking. My HRV has come up nicely over the past week after restarting my training. The interesting thing is my resting HR is floating around 4 bpm higher than normal over the past week. I question if I’m overreaching as the old rule of thumb was to do light training with a HR >5bpm greater than your baseline HR. Mine per Oura and prior tracking was 40 and has been around 44 over the past week or so. I’m uncertain if this is the product of the additional psychological stress I’ve been under in preparing to restart my normal work schedule.
